The Swedish U17 national team are world champions. After a final where the team showed both control and cutting edge, Sweden defeated Norway 4–2 (2–0) at the 2026 Youth World Championship in Uppsala.

The final was played at Serwenthallen in front of a strong crowd. Sweden maintained a high level throughout all phases of the game. With disciplined defending and efficient attacking play, the team ultimately secured the gold medal.

– It’s an incredible relief. There has been a lot of pressure on us – we’ve been clear favorites. Norway put up a really strong fight, with everyone on the right side of the ball, so it was tough and exciting, says head coach Anders Torhall.

– The boys have created memories for life. We’ve had a great time together. We started the tournament incredibly well, and that almost made the pressure even greater going into the final.

In many ways, the final reflected the tournament as a whole – a Swedish side combining collective strength with individual quality in decisive moments.

A well-deserved victory

– It feels absolutely amazing. It’s so much fun to do this with this team. We’ve been fantastic from day one, says team captain Vidar Hellqvist.

– It was hard fought. Norway stepped up and improved throughout the tournament, but I think we win it fairly.

By defending the U17 world title, Sweden confirms its strong position in international youth bandy and provides further proof of the long-term development work within Swedish bandy.
